What really makes us sad?
This is a hard question to answer because there are different levels of sadness aren’t there?
Jesus’s words in Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted” would fall into the deepest level of sadness. “Mourn”, as used in this passage of scripture refers to a “deep wailing”, “anguish”, “lamenting”, and even “unconsolable sorrow”.
How can it be that we are blessed (happy) if we are mourning at such a deep level?
The key to understanding this verse is to recognize what we are mourning!
Continuing our series on the Beatitudes, we now move to Matthew 5:4. Join us on Sunday, September 29 at 11:00 A.M. and together we will discover “The Joy of Mourning”!
